LEARNING AT AN EARLY AGE

Is enrolling our children in a course just an opportunity to occupy their time? Is it the famous saying ‘learn the art and put it aside’ of our grandparents in a modern key? I would say no: it is a way of not missing an opportunity to make the most of their potential.

First of all, their ease of learning: as children, one learns faster, because there is more ‘space’ to fill, the mind is more elastic and there are more neurons available to engage in this process.

Not to be underestimated is the enthusiasm for new things typical of children. This mental attitude acts as a powerful engine, making them curious and pushing them to seek out new things, ready to absorb new knowledge of any kind.

Finally, children have an immense trust in adults: if we are able to propose a course to our children in the right way, they will be well-disposed and open to this learning opportunity, certain that, if we have recommended it to them, it will certainly be an enjoyable and positive experience.

But what do we achieve by pushing children to learn from an early age? It is not so much the notions that count (indeed, they will probably forget most of them in a short time), but rather the fact that, by stimulating them, we will create in them a future familiarity with the subject. It may seem like a small thing, but it will be the thing that will make them feel comfortable with a particular subject and, above all, with the desire to learn in subsequent learning paths, including schooling.
